Katie Dale guest post and giveaway

Today I welcome Katie Dale with a guest post and giveaway

About Katie
ONCE upon a time... there was a little girl who dreamed of growing up to be...a farmer's wife.

Okay, so not all dreams come true (though it still might!) but as a writer and an actress, I've found a way to live a million different lives vicariously through my various characters, from zombies to princesses(!)

Inspired by my mum, also a children's writer - Elizabeth Dale – I have always enjoyed writing stories, and my first (somewhat macabre!) poem ‘The Fate of The School Hamster’ was published in Cadbury’s Book of Children’s Poetry, aged 8.
The acting bug bit soon after, whilst playing Mary in the local nativity play – only to lose my two front teeth just before the performance - d'oh!

Katie's Books

My biggest, most exciting, most eagerly-anticipated, walking-on-air celebration has to be the day my first novel, SOMEONE ELSE’S LIFE was published!
I cannot describe the thrill – after years and years of writing, redrafting, cutting, editing, pitching, hoping, praying, begging, re-editing, cutting again, and line-edits – of actually seeing my book in an ACTUAL BOOKSHOP for the very first time!! And – even better! – mine was a DOUBLE launch party to celebrate the release of my FAIRY TALE TWISTS series for Orchard Books.

But what really made it so very extra-special were the people who turned up to help me celebrate. My close family and friends were joined by very old school friends, actor friends from drama school, writer friends from SCBWI (Society of Children’s Books Writer and Illustrators), editors, agents and publicists – people who have helped and supported me throughout my life, from all walks of life, were together in the same room for the very first time – for me. It was completely overwhelming. I was perhaps most touched that people I had only met over Facebook and Twitter – writers, illustrators, bloggers – made the effort to come out on a wintry Thursday night for an author they had never met. It was so wonderful to put faces to names, to consolidate “virtual” friendships and make new friends with the people they brought with them.
My lovely agent, Jenny Savill made a beautiful speech, I read from the opening chapter of SOMEONE ELSE’S LIFE, then my wonderful sister, Caroline, my fab Mum, and long-suffering boyfriend dressed up to help perform one of my FAIRY TALE TWISTS – to much laughter and general amusement J

Then there were books to sign, gingerbread men to decorate, and even a real gingerbread house!

The whole party was a complete dream come true – an incredibly special night I will remember fondly for the rest of my life.

Katie is also giving away a copy of Someone Else's Life for UK or US entry, just fill in the rafflecopter form below
