Review: The Next Forever by Lisa Burstein
I really enjoyed Pretty Amy, so when The Next Forever came up on netgalley I knew I wanted to read it, and I requested it in the hope that I would get accepted and was really excited to have been accepted very quickly. I read The Next Forever in just over an hour, it was a quick read, but one that I enjoyed. The Next Forever is set between Pretty Amy and Dear Cassie, so it is best to read Pretty Amy before venturing into this one.
The Next Forever focuses on Amy and Joe as they make their way through college. Joe want Amy to move in with him, yet Amy is reluctant to do this. Over course of one night we follow Joe and Amy as they both end up a separate parties, but end up reminiscing about the past, their feelings for the other, and doubting the choices and decisions they made that got them to the party.
I really like how closely The Next Forever ties in with Pretty Amy. Amy is still trying to make things better from events that transpired in the previous book, she is second guessing herself, not only which Amy she is, but also her feelings towards Joe and their future. This leads to doubts about what she sees in her future with Joe himself, and if they were really meant to be.
The Next Forever gives us an insight into both sides of the story from Joe and Amy means we get a full idea of what is going on, rather than a one sided version. While I am not going to say what happens and give all the details away between what happens, not only with Joe and Amy, but also with Trevor and Emily, I will say that I enjoyed reading this short story, and it makes me want Dear Cassie even more. Anyone who has read Pretty Amy needs to read this book to find out what happens next with our enigmatic duo.
