Tell Me About It
I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still the yellow brick road, though—but even that's crumbling.

What happened?
Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas.
I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I've been trained to fight.

And I have a mission:
Remove the Tin Woodman's heart.
Steal the Scarecrow's brain.
Take the Lion's courage.
Then and only then—Dorothy must die!
My Thoughts
When I first heard about Dorothy Must Die, there was nothing but great reviews from the blogs I followed, so when the opportunity came up to receive a copy for review I did not hesitate to accept.

One thing that I immediately liked about Dorothy Must Die was how the author plays on your pre-conceptions about Oz and what we thought we knew. This new Oz is nothing like the Oz we grew up with, and even our protagonist Amy is finding out how different it all is. As the title, Dorothy Must Die, suggests, it is in fact Dorothy who is the evil one in this new world. Slowly taking all the magic from Oz and turning the people evil, or making them slaves, forcing them to mine for magic.
It is made clear straight away how out of her depth Amy is, she must work with the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked, learn how to harness magic, learn how to fight, and then use it all against Dorothy.

Dorothy Must Die is not a little book, and it took me a while to make my way though it, but it did grab my attention. Reading how this normal person from Kansas was meant to learn how to defeat Dorothy, then follow as the plan is shared on how to achieve this, certainly left some entertaining and tense moments.

Dorothy Must Die was an interesting read, I had to remind myself that we were not in the old Oz, and that anything could happen in this new world. There was one character I was sad to see go, and I wish there could have been a way to save them, however with everything not as it seems I am torn between believing they have gone, but also hoping that they haven't really gone. I liked never knowing what to expect, or what new twist would be revealed next. However I do have some niggles about the training. Amy goes from knowing nothing, to getting better at training, both in fighting and some magical, to suddenly being capable of performing a lot of difficult magic, and I found it hard to believe she could progress so quickly after seeing how hard she found it.

Overall Dorothy Must Die was a great read, and after the ending I am desperate to find out what happens next.
