Book Wars! The Jewel [The Lone City #1] by Amy Ewing(77)

Book Wars a weekly feature hosted between two book review blogs – A Life Bound By BooksMuch Loved Books!

It’s a fact that book lovers know all about the covers of the books they covet. Often when a title is released here in the UK, it’s sometimes vastly different across the pond in the US.  So, Lisa from A Life Bound By Books and I have come together to create Book Wars to talk about the difference in covers when it comes to the US vs. UK versions. We hope from time to time authors will chime in with their thoughts as well. We welcome everyone to comment and share their thoughts too! The more the merrier!

Before we get to this weeks Book Wars, we have a winner to announce. The Book Wars winner for Be With You by J.Lynn is...USA!!!!!!
Thank you to everyone who voted for both books, and for picking a winner.

Also, there's a poll at the bottom of the post that we'd love to hear your input for the two covers! Tell us which one YOU love the most.

"Today is my last day as Violet Lasting. Tomorrow I become Lot 197."

The Jewel is a shocking and compelling new YA series from debut author, Amy Ewing.

Sold for six million diamantes, Violet is now Surrogate of the House of the Lake in the centre of the Lone City, the Jewel. Her sole purpose is to produce a healthy heir for the Duchess – a woman Violet fears and despises.

Violet is trapped in a living death, her name and body no longer her own. She fights to hold on to her own identity and sanity, uncertain of the fate of her friends, isolated and at the mercy of the Duchess.

The Handmaid's Tale meets The Other Boleyn Girl in a world where beauty and brutality collide.

About the Author:
Amy Ewing is the young adult author of The Jewel, the first in a trilogy from
HarperTeen, coming out September 2014.

She grew up in a small town outside Boston, where her librarian mother instilled a deep love of reading at a young age. Amy moved to New York City in 2000 to study theater at New York University. Unfortunately, her acting career didn’t quite pan out. She worked in restaurants, as an administrative assistant, a nanny, and a sales representative for a wine distributor before the lack of creativity in her life drove her to begin writing.

Amy received her MFA in Creative Writing for Children from The New School, where she was lucky enough to meet a fabulous community of YA writers who keep her sane on a daily basis. She lives in Harlem, where she spends her days writing, eating cheese, and occasionally binge watching The Vampire Diaries.

Let the Wars Begin:
Its now time to make our decision, let's see what we think about the covers and pick our favourite cover.
Gosh what a book this week! And take a look at that cover. Sadly, I haven't read this book... YET. I know this will have many people screaming at me. SORRY!

But back to the covers... just look at them! Both are stunning in their own ways. The US cover, the more you look at it, the more you see. And I can say it's pretty amazing in person since I DO own a copy.

The UK cover, it's her "Jewel" toned dress that stands out and leaves me with a lasting impression. However, it's just doesn't have the same affect on me as the US cover does.

It's when you look closer you see that there's just SO much more to this cover than meets the eye. It's beautiful but it tells it's own story too. So this week, my vote goes to the US cover. Tell us your favorite with ONE click below.
This is such an easy choice for me today. I did have the UK copy myself but didn't really get to see the cover as it was a proof copy. But seeing these two covers side by side my choice is for the USA.
The UK cover just feels too plain and simple for me, but I LOVE the grandeur and the sparkle of the USA cover. To me this represent what the character goes through, but also her feelings in the pose of the cover model.

Which cover you YOU like the most?
