Double Review: Losers Weepers & Heart & Soul by Nicole Williams
I have really enjoyed this series from the start, and while I had every intention of reading this a soon as it arrived on my iPad, I just never got around to doing so. When I eventually picked this one up, I was surprised by how easy it was to jump back into the world of Garth and Josie, it felt like I had never been away.
Losers Weepers starts with Garth at a competition, and after a successful ride, his dream are shattered in an instant, and it was something I did not see coming until it happened, and I knew instantly what had happened, and what the consequences were.
We all know Garth is tough, and hot headed. But after one small mistake that could change his life forever, and then trying to deal with this new possibility is hard for him, so he does what he does best, and tries to push everyone away, Josie, Rowen, and Jesse. The journey for Garth is tough, but thankfully his friends and family are determined to stick by him, to make sure he doesn't sink into a black hole of depression, and also do all they can to convince him that all is not lost.
Losers Weepers was possibly the most emotional book out of the series so far for me to read. Garth was never really a character I fell in love with instantly, and occasionally he graced the pages of my good books, but seeing the life he has to try and live and how much is affects him emotionally, physically, and mentally was heartbreaking. Seeing how one small accident can literally crush his dreams, his futures, even his own self worth (which can take a lot as we all know how full of himself he is) was hard to read.
But what I loved about Losers Weepers was seeing the strength from others, how they rallied around to help and support him, even people who wouldn't really consider Garth a friend. Losers Weepers is a book that shows you that even if you give up, others will be there to catch you, that family and friends are the same thing, and they will always be there for you. I devoured every page of this book, I could not read it fast enough, and although I wasn't too sure on how it would all end, I was so happy with the final ending and how it all came about.
When I first read the synopsis for Heart & Soul I thought I had missed something out, surely Rowen's heart condition would have been mentioned in previous books, had I really missed this important piece of information. Thankfully all was explained and I could breath a sigh of relief at not missing it out.
Rowen and Jesse are shocked with the surprise pregnancy, especially after being extra careful to ensure Rowen didn't get pregnant. But although it was a surprise, this duo go into this pregnancy with some nerves, some worries, and an overall feeling of wariness. Carrying this baby could mean a death sentence to Rowen or her unborn child. Knowing that even if she survived the pregnancy, there was no guarantee that Rowen would survive the delivery. With a pregnancy full of scares and worry this couple go about coping wit this news differently. Rowen tries her bast to stay calm and do what is best for herself and the baby, Jesse is in a state of shock, being extra careful and attentive towards Rowen, even going as far as carrying shopping bags that she can manage. He is worried for his baby, and for his wife, scared he could lose them both in the blink if an eye.
After finishing Losers Weepers I could not wait to pick this book up. While the previous book was heartbreaking, Heart & Soul was a nerve wracking read, with lives on the line at every turn. I never knew what was around the corner, and as the pregnancy progresses we see how it affects Rowen and Jesse even more.
Although Heart & Soul was nerve wracking, I finished this one just as quickly as the previous book. I really enjoyed getting to spend time with Rowen and Jesse, especially as I thought we had seen the last of them a few books ago. The relationship they have with each other is unique but real, and no matter what is thrown at them they find a way to deal with it or work around it. Getting to catch up with this couple was fun, and seeing what happens next for Garth and Josie was nice too, but I am really interested in seeing what happens next with Jesse's sister and her boyfriend, I am hoping with the focus that they got in the pages of Heart & Soul, it means we get to see thier story soon.
I really don't want to say too much about what happens in the pages, so I'm just going to leave my rambling thoughts as they are.
