A horrific plane crash kills all five hundred and forty-two passengers except one. Kazumi emerges from the wreckage physically unscathed but has lost all her memories. Her miraculous survival has the whole city buzzing but all she wants is to go home, wherever home is.
After waiting a month in the hospital with no one to claim her, Kazumi is deemed homeless. She is about to be sent to a nearby teenage shelter when the nurse she grew to trust ushers her down a mysterious path, one that promises safety and maybe even the chance to recover her memories. With no better options available, Kazumi takes her chance and finds herself in the headquarters of the Sarcomeres, a secret society of genetically advanced humans hidden deep inside the Rocky Mountains. The Sarc’s heightened physical abilities and high-tech gadgets are not the only things that fascinate Kazumi. Finnegan O’Riley, a fellow Sarc she meets along the way also gets her heart racing. When Kazumi discovers that she possesses the genetic potential of a Sarcomere, she jumps at the chance to train with them, not knowing the death defying tests that are involved.
Meanwhile, a centuries-old nemesis of the Sarcomeres begins to stir in the dark, setting their dark plans in motion. Just when Kazumi thinks she can help protect her new found home, past memories surface to threaten her new identity. She soon realizes that layers of deception run deep and everyone has a secret agenda, including herself.
Who can she trust when she can’t even trust herself? One wrong decision could bring forth consequences worse than death.

All royalties made in the first year will go to a charity called Covenant House, to help homeless youth.

Shadow of Deception - A Novel That Benefits Homeless Youth

Many people have asked me why choose to donate all my royalties from Shadow of Deception in the first year to a charity. And why specifically Covenant House?
Writing is my passion and thankfully it is not my sole source of income at this moment, which allows me to use my debut novel as a tool to raise money for people in need. It's just a small way for me to give back to society.
Why Covenant House? For those of you who don't know what Covenant House is, it is the largest organization in North America dedicated to help at-risk, abused, and homeless youth. It has shelters in 27 cities across the United States, Canada, and Central America. Covenant House is not your ordinary charity organization. It is a leading advocate on behalf of homeless youth—those who can't speak up for themselves at various levels of government. They have different programs designed to provide youth with a holistic approach to leaving the streets and achieving independence.
I came across Covenant House when I was teaching at a college in downtown Toronto. I saw first hand what they did for youth in need and was deeply impressed. Then I came across some underprivileged students in my teaching and their perseverance and dedication really moved me. Despite their difficult circumstances, whether it was financial or domestic, they tried their very best to make something out of their lives. No one wants to be on the streets begging. Most of us don't know that over 70% of these kids were forced out of their home due to some form of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse domestically. And once they're on the streets, their mortality rates spike to over 40 times higher than housed youth with primary cause of death being suicide and drug overdose.
As cliche as it sounds, youth is the future of our society and the homeless ones are just as capable and ambitious if given the right guidance and aid along the way. So when Shadow of Deception came to be, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for me to do something for these kids. A few copies sold may not generate much but being distributed worldwide, I hope to get enough support from readers across the globe to really make a difference. Every copy sold is a small step closer to ending youth homelessness. I wish to have your support in this initiative and a little encouragement for a new author is nice too. :)

Thank you!
