Queen of Shadows is a book I have been desperate to read, and after some delay on my delivery I made a start on this as soon as I could, which also means I did more reading and less note taking.
Gone is Celaena, in her place Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, warrior, Queen, and Carranam to Rowan. Seeing this transformation and seeing how far Celaena has come has been an epic journey, with twists and turns that I never saw coming. Each book in this series has blew me away, and with that many amazing books, you worry that the next installment won't live up to your expectations, that you have placed it so high on a pedestal, that when it's put in front of you, it just doesn't quite meet your expectations. Queen of Shadows however, was just as amazing as the previous books, and while it took me a while to read this beast of a book, I enjoyed every single page.
I really like that the humour is still in the book, with the snarky remarks and deadpan replies, you can't help but laugh no matter how tense the situation
"What a shame that the current owner of the Vaults, a former underling of Rourke Farran and a dealer of flesh and opiates, had accidentally run into her knives. Repeatedly."Queen of Shadows has the characters we know and love within the pages, but we also get introduced to some from the past, and some new faces. Nesryn was a scout who works with Chaol, she has a spunky attitude and a personality to match Celaena. Lysandra is an old enemy of Celaena's, yet she saved a child's life with a debt that still needs to be paid. I loved seeing the slow friendship between this duo evolve throughout the pages of the book, how Celaena respects Lysandra for what she had done, and how Lysandra's deepest secret is revealed, but also comes in very handy near the end of the book. I can't wait to see what trouble this enigmatic duo can get up to in the next book. Aedion also features heavily within the pages of Queen of Shadows, I love his posing and pretending, trying to act like the bigger man for Celaena.
The journey that Celaena takes is not an easy one, and the plans that they get together are dangerous beyond belief. The risks that are taken are life threatening, but Celaena does this for everyone, and even when it means she has to chose, she always picks the right path. I love the world building, the character development, and the fact that even four books into this series, you never know what the author will throw at you next. She manages to keep you in suspense, has you wanting to slap a character or two, but also makes you fall in love with the whole entire world all over again.
Queen of Shadows is another unputdownable book in the Throne of Glass series, and I really need to have the net installment in my hands right now. I can't wait to see what happens next, especially with so many new plots opened to us.
Queen of Shadows is a MUST READ!!!
