Audiobook Review: The Amber Spyglass [His Dark Materials #3] by Philip Pullman
The Amber Spyglass is the final installment in His Dark Materials trilogy, and is also the longest audiobook out of them all. For me listening to this, I knew it was the end, that once it was over I would be leaving this world behind and saying goodbye to a lot of characters I have grown to love.
Lyra and Will have certainly been on some adventures on thier journey together, but The Amber Spyglass is thier most important one yet, with the fate of the worlds hanging on the edge of a knife.
I really liked how we got to see multiple points of view as this book progressed, from Lyra and Will, Mary, and many more. I think my favourite thing about this book was the introduction of the Mulefa, these creatures fascinated me with how they have evolved, how they communicate, and just how unique they are.
I liked the progression of The Amber Spyglass and seeing the characters grow and develop over the entire series. Some decisions they have to make are really tough, and I will admit to shedding a tear or ten as we got closer to the end. Like the previous books, I read this one years ago, and with thousands of books read since then, it's hard to remember what happened, so getting to listen to the audiobook was like reading this for the first time.
The Amber Spyglass was a book filled with action, danger, and suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed taking this journey with the characters, taking each step with them, seeing them make mistakes and learn from them, and working together with the most unexpected 'things' imaginable.
The Amber Spyglass was an excellent finale to this trilogy, and I am so glad I got the chance to listen to these books. Old fans or new listeners, this series is sure to be perfect for all.
