Book Review: You're It by Leigh Ann Kopans
Before starting You're It I had one reason to read it, and that is the author. As I learnt more I had no idea what senior tag was, we didn't do that where I live, so I was interested in seeing what it was all about, and how far it would go. I also went into this thinking it was a stand alone, when in reality it is part of a series. Luckily I had read the previous books, so I knew who the characters were.
Julia was someone who surprised me in many ways. For starters she is part of the popular crowd, but didn't use this against others and act like she was better, she was really down to earth, she was a genuinely nice person. Alex is someone new to the popular crowd, and as the story progresses we do learn more about him. I really liked seeing him with his family and how much he sacrifices to help them out. Normally these two characters wouldn't really work in a book, but Leigh Ann has done a great job of making them relatable, and real.
Before starting You're It I was really intrigued over the synopsis and had to know what was going to happen. As we get to know Alex and Julia, we learn about their reasons for taking part in senior tag. Julia was someone who has it all, but can't have it all, and her winnings will help her go on the journey of a lifetime. For Alex it's a plan for his future, a way of getting his foot in the door.
Senior tag, while it's not something I would do, was fun to read, not only the rules but also how they get each other. I love the plans and the sneaking and I was really torn over who I wanted to win. Thankfully Leigh Ann has a way of making this work for everyone and I really did like the ending.
Putting aside senior tag, there are a lot of other threads running through this story, about family, strength, sacrifices, and choices, and I really liked how they worked so well together.
You're It was another great book from Leigh Ann Kopans, I could not read this one fast enough, and I am hoping she has another book in the works soon.
