Book Reviews: Home + Just Bite + Raven by Tommy Donbavand

For those who don't know, the author of the following books, Tommy Donbavand, is fighting cancer. When a call out went on twitter from a publicist asking for readers, a lot of us replied offering our help. My small part in this is getting the chance to review a few books.

The following books are aimed at reluctant readers, meaning the story is a very short read so I won't be going into massive detailed reviews for them.

Tell Me About It
How much would you miss your family if you were suddenly separated from them?
What would you do to get back to where you belong?
When 14-year-old Danny loses his brother Max, he’s amazed just how far his twin will go to find his way home.
My Thoughts
Max, Danny, and Fiona are siblings, and we meet them in the middle of a fight over Max farting in the car, this is also the fist chapter's name which I thought was quite funny. This chapter made me laugh as I've lots of these fights over the years with my siblings.

A moment of distraction leads to a loss of a family member, and the events that followed were quite funny, including lots of fans for cold, needles and thread, and running.

This was a very quick read at just over 50 pages.

Tell Me About It
All 15 year old Poppy wants is to dye her hair jet black, and for everyone to call her Raven.
And to discover whether her missing twin brother is alive or dead so that she and her parents can finally move on with their lives.
Can Poppy find Stephen, and a place to belong, at the same time?
My Thoughts
Poppy, aka Raven, has lost a brother, he ran away and never came home, and her family has not heard from him since. In an act of rebellion to go against her parents wishes rules to keep her 'safe', she dyes her hair pink, after her mum strictly forbade so her from dyeing it black, she wants to go out and stay in friends and be a normal teenager.

As the story progressed I enjoyed the story, but towards the end I saw what was coming and thought it was a unique twist on the usual good v evil debate.

Tell Me About It
Sally Hagen dresses in black, buys expensive purple candles, and hates the fact that her Mum orders greasy, takeaway meals from the Just Bite website night after night.

When Carlos – the geek with a crush on her from school – delivers the latest dial-a-dinner, Sally figures the evening can’t get any worse.
That is, until the lights go out and a scream pierces the night…
My Thoughts
Carlos someone who fancys Sally, and finds out where she lives after delivering food to her house. I did think there was something creepy about Carlos...he came across as a very over eager stalker.

The cover and the title really tells what this story is about and I loved how they managed to wrangle the entering with permission aspect. I enjoyed seeing how this one played out and how it ended.
