I am a huge fan of the Geek Girl series, so when Sunny Side Up landed at my door step I dropped everything to read this one straight away. I love getting to spend time with Harriet, and see where she is going or what she is doing. She never fails to make me laugh, intentionally or not.
How did Harriet Manners –Destroyer of International Fashion Shows, Knocker-Over of Models, Sitter-Downer on Catwalks and Compiler of Compound Nouns –get selected to participate in Paris Couture Fashion Week: the most prestigious event a young model can possibly attend?I love how Harriet is always surprised when she gets a new job, like she is never good enough, so her job for Paris Fashion Week comes as a surprise for everyone. After reading all of the book, we know Harriet is never far from disaster no matter what she does, but she is determined to do her best this time, to follow all the rules exactly. But when has Harriet ever managed to follow the rules?
Well, I'm afraid I have no idea either.
Sunny Side Up is a novella that fits between All That Glitters and Head Over Heels. so it's advisable to read All That Glitters before picking this one up. Within the first few pages of this book I was laughing out loud, Harriet without sleep and an overabundance of energy is not an ideal mix, it just makes her even more factual than ever.
I love how Harriet is determined to do her best as a model, but also how normal she is. She may be a model but she is just like you and me. She has spots, makes mistakes, and definitely has wardrobe disasters. She is real and not so one who is perfect all the time. This is even more evident when Wilbur gets her styled and ready, before her actual professional style by the stylist.
Sunny Side Up is aptly named, but also completely opposite of the final show, which honestly sounds far too creepy for me to try, but fascinating to read about. The location, the designs, even the model poses were a perfect blend.
Sunny Side Up is another great addition to this series and it certainly helps with the withdrawal symptoms. This also comes with an added bonus of a second story from a different point of view. Who this new story comes from has been revealed, but for those who haven't seen it yet I'm not going to spoil it here.
Sunny Side Up is a must read for fans of this series, especially if you need to find out what happened in Paris, and what mistakes Harriet makes. This is a quick read, but is a must have for your Geek Girl collection.
