Guest Post by Cameo Renae

Today I have the great honour of having my blog taken over for the day by Cameo Renae.  She has agreed to do a guest post for me, and at the end of the post is a chance for you to win a copy (pub or pdf) of her book In My Dreams.

First off… an extra special “Thanks”, to Michelle at Much Loved Books for having me!  She’s the last stop on my tour, and I must say… It’s been a blast!

Inspiration: From Dream to Reality

From as young as I can remember, I’ve always loved to write. My grandmother said that when I was around two, I used to take books and copy down the words. That doesn’t sound like anything a normal two year old would do… and certainly not my children when they were two! But then… I am not the normal person.
What inspired me to write In My Dreams was actually a dream that I had, but what sparked it… years before was when my mother-in-law passed away. My husband was completely devastated. He was a momma’s boy, and she was so young and beautiful. Cancer took her, quite suddenly, at the age of 62. Then we started to question… What does truly happen when we die?

We were both raised in Christian families, so the belief that we die and go to Heaven was inbreed into us. But still… I had some questions. Psychic Medium shows like Lisa Williams, and John Edwards came out, and other paranormal ghost shows flooded the TV. We became avid watchers. One medium said that our loved ones can still communicate with us in subtle ways like a song on the radio when you need it, or a dream… I guess that’s when the spark started to flame.

Then, one night, I had a dream. It was actually more of a nightmare. I dreamt that I was lost in these woods, and a dark creature was chasing me. I’d never been so scared. I finally found a small cabin, which I ran to for protection, BUT! There was a door on every wall, which no matter how much I tried to keep them closed, would fly open. It was frustrating! Then… I watched the creature coming… coming to get me. I woke from that dream and shook my husband. I told him about it, and he didn’t know what to think. He actually thought it was a pretty cool story.

So… after thinking about it, I went to my computer and started to write. The dream I had, became part one of Chapter 1. So… a new journey began. I gave a name to the character running in the woods. I loved the nickname Lizzy, so she became Elizabeth “Lizzy” Hayes.

After more thought… I wanted to write about what I thought, or would love to happen if a loved one died. What would it feel like to have someone so close, suddenly pass away? Would they cross-over, or would they linger? Could they contact us? And, if they could…how? These questions started to turn in my mind, and started the inspiration for In My Dreams. I’ve had a few readers say that it really made them think, and I think… that’s awesome.

So, I sat and wrote about eight chapters. Then… work started getting busy, and the story got pushed to the side. I tried to write when I had the time, but then got to Chapter 10. My daughter had just started the Twilight series, and was raving mad about it. She’d read my first chapters and pushed me to finish In My Dreams. So… at the beginning of this year, my New Year’s resolution was to finish what I’d started. Every second of extra time I had… I wrote. And… eventually, In My Dreams became a reality.

Now… I had the manuscript… what’s next??? After much research, and a few rejections from agents, I decided to self-publish. I wish I could’ve had the finances to have it edited by a professional, but I didn’t. Friends and family read and helped with editing as much as they could, but it’s still not the same as those professional eyes.

I’d say that I’m happy with the way that In My Dreams turned out. Yes, it could use some polishing, here and there, but all-in-all, I’m very satisfied.

In My Dreams will always be my baby, and has put a flame in my heart to continue writing. I’ve almost completed my second novel, which hasn’t even been named yet. I DID have a name for it, but one day saw a banner for a new book release with the exact same name! UGH!!! The Horror!!! I was heartbroken, but now, in search of a new title…

My new work is set to be a trilogy. It is a paranormal romance, with a lot of action, and a lot more characters. The setting is in Alaska. Yes, I love the place. It just seems like a place where adventures like these could really happen.

Here is a short preview of my next book…

Emma has just turned seventeen, and her birthday party was the last thing she remembers.
She finds herself in a hospital bed, waking to a woman telling her that she’s been in an accident, an accident in which her parents were killed, and she barely made it out alive.
She’s now orphaned, but there’s more… a mysterious Aunt claims her, and is appointed guardianship over her. Emma has never heard anything about this Aunt. Her parents didn’t have siblings… or so she thought. Well… this Aunt has sent an escort to bring Emma to her new home, in Alaska; a huge change from LA, where she was born and raised.

After the accident, things start to spiral out of control… and it all starts with her new escort.
Emma has an overwhelming, euphoric feeling rush through her veins before the unearthly, handsome boy even reaches the door. And then… it begins.
She finds herself in a new world. A world she never thought existed, a world where she’s now…front and center.

This is an exciting story of guardians, and terrifying creatures’ hell bent on killing Emma. Why?

There’s more to her than she even knows of! Hope you’ll read to find out!

I’m really, really enjoying writing this one. It should be finished next month. Maybe it’ll get picked up and polished! That remains to be seen..
