Tell Me About It
Once, in the desert country of Miraji, there was a Sultan without an heir.

The heir had been killed by his own brother, the treacherous Rebel Prince, who was consumed by jealousy and sought the throne for himself.

Or so it was said by some. There were others who said that the Rebel Prince was not a traitor but a hero...

In the final battle for the throne, Amani must fight for everything she believes in, but with the rebellion in pieces, and the Sultan's armies advancing across the desert plains, who will lead, who will triumph, who will live and who will die?
My Thoughts
Hero at the Fall is the final book in the Rebel of the Sands series by Alwyn Hamilton, and it’s one I have been both eager and unwilling to read. I have loved the previous two books in this series, and knowing that this is the end of it all is a bitter sweet moment. I’ve been with this series from the very beginning, before publication and even before we knew what it was all about, so getting a copy of the book at the end of last year was an exciting moment for me, but I knew I couldn’t start it straight away, I just wanted this world to last that little bit longer......and then real life took over and I found myself reading Hero at the Fall a lot later than planned. Hero at the Fall was more than I expected, and I loved seeing how the end of Amani's adventure all played out.

I really liked that the first thing we see when opening Hero at the Fall, is a list of all the characters, with information on who's side of the war they are on, their heritage, and their ages. This was perfect to help you remember who was who, especially after having such a long gap between reading the books. Within a few sentences of Hero at the Fall we are reminded of who has gone from the rebellion, who is left, and what their situation is.

I love that we get a front row seat to the planning, the strategising, and being part of the action. Seeing how far this small rebel group has come takes some determination, and hard work. However Hero at the Fall isn't without it's losses, and although I was prepared for a death, I didn't think it would affect me as much as it did.

Hero at the Fall is a perfect blend of magic, mystery, and all out war. Some of the magical feats that we see in these pages are beyond belief, but are described so well you can picture it all in your mind. I loved going on this final journey as part of the rebellion, not knowing what is coming around the corner, or what obstacle comes next. We see some old faces who make surprising choices, and some new ones that I didn't know how to take.

Final Verdict
Amani has come so far, and we already know how much of a fighter she is, but in this final instalment Amani shows us her determination, perseverance, and how far she is willing to go in order to save her friends, her family, and her home. I have loved every single page of this series, and Hero at the Fall ends it all with a bang.
